For those seeking a true, immersive, and high-level ski mountaineering experience, the ascent to Punta Dufour – the highest peak in Switzerland – or to Nordend, its elegant sister, is a dream to be lived with skis on your feet and your heart wide open.
With the Guides of Cervino, you can take on this great traverse in complete safety and with the support of professionals who know the area inside out. Starting from the Italian side, at the Klein Matterhorn, you’ll cross the glaciers of Monte Rosa, spend the night at the scenic Monte Rosa Hütte, and attempt the ascent of one of the two main summits before returning to Zermatt. A complete, wild, and spectacular adventure.
Day 1 – Traverse to the Monte Rosa Hütte
Meeting point in Cervinia and ascent by cable car to the Klein Matterhorn (3,820 m). Descent along the Schwarztor Glacier (Porta Nera), through seracs and unique glacial scenery, then ascent in high mountain terrain until reaching the modern and welcoming Monte Rosa Hütte (2,883 m). Dinner and overnight stay at the hut.
Day 2 – Ascent to Punta Dufour or Nordend
Early morning start and gradual climb up the Monte Rosa Glacier. Technical ascent to the chosen summit depending on conditions and participants’ level:
•Nordend (4,609 m) – less technical
•Punta Dufour (4,634 m) – more technical, with mixed snow and rock ridge passages.
Descent all the way to Zermatt, then return by lifts to Cervinia.
