Train, understand the mountain, and climb the Matterhorn with awareness and safety.
Climbing the Matterhorn (4,478 m) is a dream for many mountaineers. It’s not just any mountain: it’s a symbol, a technical, physical, and emotional challenge.
For this reason, we’ve created a structured and progressive Stage, ideal for those who want to approach this ascent in the most serious and safe way possible—spending a full week with the Cervino Guides, in preparation for the final climb.
What is the Cervino Stage?
The Cervino Stage is a program designed to:
•Improve physical condition and acclimatisation
•Evaluate and refine technical skills (movement on rock, rope handling, exposure management)
•Build trust and harmony between client and guide—essential for such a demanding climb
During the stage, we climb several peaks chosen according to conditions and participants’ level, with features similar to the Matterhorn, culminating in the final ascent along the most suitable route.
The program may vary slightly depending on weather and physical condition. The goal is always maximum safety and success.
Day 1 – Meeting, gear check, and introductory climb
Technical ascent on rock or along a panoramic ridge in the Cheneil or Valtournenche area, or on Punta Tsan(3,320 m) or similar.
A wild, less-travelled itinerary with technical rock passages.
🎯 Training on exposed terrain, managing progression and safety.
Days 2–3 Ascent to the Guide del Cervino Hut and overnight stay at altitude
On the second day, half traverse of the Central and Western Breithorn or ascent of Pollux (4,092 m).
Easy mixed rocky and glacial ridges over 4,000 m.
🎯 high-altitude acclimatization and rope team movement on mixed terrain.
Days 4–5 – Ascent of the Matterhorn (4,478 m)
Depending on conditions and the climber’s level, the route is chosen together with the guide:
•Italian Normal Route (Lion Ridge), with or without an overnight stay at the Carrel Hut
•Alternatively, Swiss Route (Hörnli Ridge) or the full traverse
This is the final goal—the culmination of a week of preparation and shared effort.
Note: The program includes only the guided activity days; rest or recovery days can be included. It is also possible to customise the program upon request.
