Tour of the Matterhorn – 5 Day Alpine Trek

Guided by the Cervino Guides – Discover the wild side of the Matterhorn, the Alps’ most iconic peak.

Embark on an unforgettable journey by foot around one of the world’s most legendary mountains.

Five days of trekking through remote valleys, sparkling glaciers, and dramatic ridgelines.

This exclusive version of the Matterhorn Circuit is designed for experienced hikers seeking a wilder, more technical, and less travelled adventure.

The  circular route led by a Cervino Guide who knows the mountain intimately will reveal every face of the Matterhorn.

Itinerary – 5 Days

Day 1 – Cervinia → Schönbiel Hut (Switzerland)

From Cervinia, we take the lifts to Plateau Rosa before descending toward the Zmutt Glacier. Crossing trails and glacial moraines, we reach the Schönbiel Hut, perfectly placed for an unforgettable view of the Matterhorn’s mighty north face.

First steps in a glacial, high-alpine environment. Overnight in a Swiss mountain hut.

Day 2 – Schönbiel Hut → Rifugio Aosta (Italy)

A demanding but thrilling alpine stage. We ascend to the Col de Valpelline (3,562 m), where vast horizons open over the wild and untouched Bionaz Valley. From here we traverse the glacier, then descend across stony paths and scree slopes to Rifugio Aosta.

Glacier travel and solitary mountain scenery. Light alpine gear required: harness, crampons, helmet.

Day 3 – Rifugio Aosta → Rifugio Prarayer (Valpelline)

A more relaxing stage, descending into the enchanting Valpelline. Alpine lakes and towering peaks line the way to Rifugio Prarayer, set on the shores of Lake Place Moulin.

A day to pause, breathe, and recharge before the final demanding stages.

Day 4 – Rifugio Prarayer → Rifugio Perrucca

A spectacular high-mountain stage. We climb to Col Valcornera, cross rugged alpine terrain, and descend into the beautiful Cignana basin to reach Rifugio Perrucca.

Day 5 – Rifugio Perrucca → Cervinia

The final stage crosses the Cignana Pass, followed by a magnificent descent back to Cervinia.

The circuit closes in style, with sweeping, unforgettable views of the Matterhorn.
